Kuala Lumpur: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahiim Al Khalifa offered his heartfelt condolences on the passing of former India international Amar Bahadur Gurung, who breathed his last at a hospital in Gurgaon, India, on Wednesday evening.
Amar Bahadur, 73, made his India debut against Cambodia in the Asia Cup qualifiers in Cambodia in 1967, and earned 22 caps. He scored the all-important winning goal in India’s 1-0 win against Japan which secured a bronze medal at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok.
He also represented India in three editions of the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia and played in the Pesta Sukan Cup in 1970. Amar Bahadur was a regular member of the national team in the mid-60s and early 70s.
The thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the entire Asian football fraternity are with the family and friends of Amar Bahadur.
