Kuantan: AFC Cup quarter-finalists Pahang extended their lead at the top of the Malaysia Super League table to five points on Wednesday thanks to a 3-1 home defeat of Sarawak.
The win followed up last weekend’s 3-1 success away at Selangor and saw Pahang move further ahead of second-placed Johor Darul Ta’zim who do, however, have a game in hand on their fellow AFC Cup hopefuls.
After a frantic opening which saw Hafiz Kamal hit the post for Pahang, Pakistan international Zesh Rehman notched his second goal in two games for the hosts when he slid in at the far post to convert Azamuddin Akil’s 22nd minute free-kick.

Sarawak, who are fighting to stave off relegation, clawed their way back into the game shortly after the hour mark courtesy of Joseph Kalang Tie’s smart run and finish, only to see Dickson Nwakaeme restore Pahang’s lead on 70 minutes after the striker has bustled his way into the penalty area and finished with aplomb.
Azamuddin duly notched Pahang’s third with 11 minutes remaining to seal a comfortable win for Malaysia’s league leaders who will face Tajikistan’s FC Istiklol over two legs in the AFC Cup’s last eight.
