Beirut: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa arrived in Beirut on Sunday in an official two-day visit to attend the opening ceremony of the first phase of Michel Suleiman Sports Village as well as to receive the National Order of Cedar from Lebanese President Michel Suleiman.
Upon arrival, Shaikh Salman was welcomed by Lebanese Football Association President Hashim Haider, former Lebanese Olympic Committee President and Olympic Council of Asia Executive Committee member Major General Suhail Khory and World Sport Group President Pierre Kakhia.
In his statement, Shaikh Salman expressed delight for this visit, stressing that it comes within the framework of ensuring continuous communication with the national football federations in Asia, in addition to holding talks with its officials on ways to promote cooperation between the AFC and those federations.
Shaikh Salman praised the Lebanese FA and its efforts in developing football in the country, pointing out that the stability of the Lebanese FA, headed by Hashim Haider, is a strong motive for the advancement of the game.
He asserted the AFC approach to provide various forms of support and assistance to the Lebanese federation as well as to other national federations in an attempt to continue their vital roles in upgrading the game at all levels.
