Jakarta: Hosts Indonesia claimed their second AFC U-23 Championship 2016 qualifying win when they beat Brunei 2-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Sunday.
The Indonesians, who had opened their qualifying campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Timor Leste, left it late in the second half to find the two goals to claim thiei second Group H win.
Ahmad Nufiandani put Indonesia one up on 70 minutes before substitute Muchlis Hadi Ning Syaifulloh, who had contributed a goal in the win over Timor Leste, doubled the advantage three minutes from time to seal the victory.
Indonesia will play Korea Republic in their last qualifying game while Brunei will lock horns with Timor Leste on Tuesday.
Ten group winners and five best second-placed teams from all groups will join hosts Qatar at the AFC U-23 Championship 2016, with January’s 16-team competition also serving as Asia’s qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio.
