Jakarta: Hosts Indonesia got their AFC U-23 Championship 2016 qualifying campaign off to a good start as they downed Timor Leste 5-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Friday.
The Indonesians led their opponents 2-0 in the first period and added three more after the break to comprehensively win their Group H game.
Adam Alis Setyano (17”) and skipper Manahati Lestusen (45+1”) were on target in the first half before Evan Dimas Darmono (51”), Muchlis Hadi Ning Syaifulloh (66”) and Hansamu Yama Pranata (86”) added to the tally in the second period.
Indonesia, head to head in the group standings with Korea Republic who earlier beat Brunei by the same score-line, will have the Bruneians as their second opponents while Timor Leste will face Korea Republic on Sunday.
Ten group winners and five best second-placed teams from all groups will join hosts Qatar at the AFC U-23 Championship 2016, with January’s 16-team competition also serving as Asia’s qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio.
