Sana: AFC Cup 2013 participating Al Shab Ibb Club lifted the Yemen Super Cup by beating fellow AFC Cup aspirants Ahli Taiz SC 4-3 in the penalty shootout at the Ali Mohsin Muraisi Stadium on Sunday.
The match was locked at 1-1 in the regulation as well as added extra time. Shadi Jamal, who had put Ahli Taiz on 1-0 lead earlier in the 67th minute, missed from the spot.
In the come-from-behind cup win, Riyadh Abu Bakr levelled the score in the 73rd minute after Jamal put Ahli Taiz ahead.
Al Shab Ibb are in strong Group C of the AFC Cup where they face experience continental campaigner Al Faisaly from Jordan alongside with Iraq’s Duhok and Omani debutant Dhofar Club with their first match being a tie against current Iraqi league leaders Duhok.
Likewise, Ahli Taiz are in Group B featuring last year’s AFC Cup runners-up Arbil from Iraq as well as Oman’s Fanja and Al Ansar of Lebanon. They travel to Iraq to face Arbil next Tuesday.
