Riyadh: 2013 AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Al Shabab claimed the Saudi Super Cup title on Friday after edging out Al Nasr on penalties.
2014 King's Cup holders Al Shabab were held to a 1-1 draw in regulation time, before winning 4-3 on penalties to conclude a dramatic night of action at the King Fahd international Stadium in Riyadh.
Despite their eventual capitulation, it was Al Nasr, last season's Saudi Pro League champions who struck first, striker Mohammad Al Sahlawi scoring with only 12 minutes on the clock.
Al Shabab duly levelled matters after 20 minutes when Naif Hazazi scored what would prove to be the night's only goal.
Having seen Al Nasr's Ibrahim Ghaleb sent off in extra-time, it was Al Shabab who then held their nerve in the penalty shootout to be crowned Super Cup champions and hand themselves a major psychological boost ahead of the start of the domestic season in Saudi Arabia.
