London: English Premier League giants Arsenal have announced the signing of Japan international Takuma Asano subject to a successful medical and international clearance.
The talented striker joins the north London outfit from Sanfrecce Hiroshima where he made his debut in 2013 aged just 18.
“Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future,” Gunners manager Arsene Wenger said of the 21-year-old.
“He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”
Asano, who scored twice to help Japan beat Korea Republic 3-2 in the final of January’s AFC U23 Championship, has five full international appearances to his name since being handed a start in August last year. He duly opened his goalscoring account for the Samurai Blue’s senior team courtesy of a strike against Bulgaria last month.
Asano becomes the third Japanese player to feature under Wenger, following in the footsteps of Junichi Inamoto and Ryo Miyaichi.
