AFC Champions League 2020 (WEST): The Stats Wrap

Doha: After three weeks of intense action in Qatar, the West Asia section of the 2020 AFC Champions League concluded with Persepolis FC overcoming Al Nassr on penalties in the semi-final to advance to the showpiece event for the second time in three years.  

The Iranian giants will not learn their opponents for December's finale until the sides in East Asia complete their half of the draw later in the year as the Continent's premier club competition gets set to take centre stage once more from mid-November onwards.

PFA honours Grassroots Coach Volunteer of the Year

Al Ram: The Palestine Football Association (PFA) awarded Khalid Abu Ghoush as the Best Grassroots Coach Volunteer of the Year at their Grassroots Annual Award 2019-2020 for his contribution in volunteering the PFA grassroots activities which include attending training sessions, participating grassroots festival, and assisting in grassroots competition.

Organised by the PFA Grassroots Department, the Grassroots Coach Volunteer of the Year award recognises the efforts of volunteers for growing the grassroots game and for developing football in accordance with 10 Criteria which include enthusiasm, responsiveness to players, children’s services, physical and emotional education, patience, interpretation of the Laws of the Game, sportsmanship, time management, relationship with players as well as the feedback from parents.

It’s My Game: Maha Janoud - Nothing is impossible in football

Kuala Lumpur: In the latest Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) ‘It’s My Game’ feature, Maha Janoud, the Head of Women’s Football in Oman Football Association (OFA), shares her inspiring rise in the sport from an amateur footballer to becoming the first woman to coach a men’s football team in West Asia. 

Maha, who is also the AFC Women’s Football Committee member, started her football career in the Physical Education Institute in Syria, where like many young girls, faced several obstacles in society.

Le Fondre bids farewell to Sydney

Sydney: Two-time A-League championship-winning striker Adam Le Fondre has left Sydney FC, the club announced on Wednesday, with the Englishman expected to spend next year on loan with Mumbai City in India.

Le Fondre, who was a key part of Steve Corica’s side that won back-to-back Grand Finals in 2019 and 2020, will leave Sydney after two seasons in Australia, where he topped the club’s scoring charts in each of the campaigns he spent in the A-League.

Riyadh: 2020 AFC Champions League semi-finalists Al Nassr have boosted their squad with the signing of young international Ali Al Hassan.

The 23-year-old midfielder join Al Nassr from compatriots Al Fateh on a five-year deal as the Riyadh giants prepare for the start of the new Saudi Pro League season next week.
