Dhaka: Host nation Bangladesh held their nerve on Tuesday to beat India 4-2 on penalties and claim the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-16 Championship title.
After a goalless first half, Bangladesh broke the deadlock shortly after the break when striker Fahim Murshed expertly converted Mohammed Shawon’s pinpoint cross, only for reigning champions India to draw level on the hour mark thanks to Amay Morajkar’s drive.
With neither side able to find a decisive winner, the closely fought encounter went to penalties from which Bangladesh were to emerge victorious following misses by both Abhijit Sarkar and Saqlain Khan.
