Brasilia: AFC Asian Cup champions made a disappointing start to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup campaign as hosts Brazil eased to a 3-0 win in the tournament curtain-raiser.
Brazil, who are looking to complete a hat-trick of Confederations Cup triumphs following victories in 2005 and 2009, went ahead with just three minutes at the Estadio Nacional played through a stunning strike from Neymar (Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior).
Paulinho (José Paulo Bezerra Maciel Júnior) doubled the four-time champions’ lead three minutes after the restart before Jo (João Alves de Assis Silva) completed Brazil’s comfortable win in second-half stoppage time with his first international goal for the Seleção.
Japan will be looking to get their Confederations Cup campaign back on track when they face Italy at the Arena Pernambuco on Wednesday.
