Bandar Seri Begawan: Twenty-one aspiring coaches received certificates of participation from the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam after completing their AFC ‘C’ Coaching Certificate Course on Tuesday.
National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Deputy President Pehin Datu Indera Sugara Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Hj Mohannad Yussof Abu Bakar presented the certificates to the coach hopefuls.
The participants completed 85 hours of lessons and three practical examinations during the 12-day course and now will have to wait for a month for two of their papers to be graded by the AFC.
Sixteen of the participants were from the Brunei-Muara area, two from Belait, another two from Temburong and one came all the way from Indonesia after being in contact with the NFABD for a year leading up to the course.
A secondary school football team coach, Nordin Hj Awang Besar, has plans to take up a course for the next certificate, the AFC ‘B’ Certificate, in the future.
“It was an excellent course and it taught us a lot on how to organise more meaningful training to develop better players for the national team,” said Nordin. “I want to use what I learnt by enhancing training sessions while developing the technical skills to create a better team.”
Meanwhile, Jerudong FC player Mohammad Endy Zulyady thought the course was tough but he was happy with the new things learnt which will be useful for his team as well.
“The course was actually really tiring and to become a coach isn’t easy, though now I can bring back all the new things I have learnt to show my team,” said Endy, thanking the NFABD for holding the course.
NFABD Technical Director Mike Wong Mun Heng and NFABD Senior Coach Stephen Ng Heng Seng delivered the ‘C’ course.
“It was a good learning experience for all of them and I think all of them worked really hard,” said Ng. “They were very dedicated and committed.
“I think it was a pleasure to work with coaches from around Brunei and I would like to say all of them have shown improvements over the days.”
The ‘C’ course aims to develop the participants’ basic techniques and skills in football coaching by teaching them how to organise, direct and conduct basic coaching practices targeting young players.
After obtaining the ‘C’ Certificate, they will be eligible to apply for the AFC ‘B’ Certificate after two years’ of coaching experience, followed by an additional one year to sit for the AFC ‘A’ Certificate.
Next would be the AFC Professional Coaching Diploma, the highest football coaching certification in the continent, which can only be taken after conducting two years of coaching as an ‘A’ certified coach and meeting certain other criteria.
