Istanbul: Asian coaching instructors have welcomed the opportunity to meet coaching experts from all over the world and learn from each other’s experiences during a seminar on the sidelines of the recently concluded FIFA U-20 World Cup 2013 in Turkey.
The FIFA Coaching Instructors’ Seminar was organised to update Coaching Instructors on FIFA's new programmes and projects, provide opportunities to exchange experiences and address challenges faced during their delivery of courses.
The intense four-day programme included group and podium discussions as well as classroom and practical demonstration sessions, concluding with the observation of the final day matches of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
One of the Asian instructors participating in the seminar, Kwok Ka Ming of Hong Kong, said: “The seminar was indeed an extremely fruitful seminar especially for Asian Instructors to meet the rest of the world's experts in sharing the latest development of the game and coaching methods amongst all participants including both theory and practical sessions.
“FIFA has also taken this opportunity to inform the Instructors the latest development programmes that have been implemented and new programmes that will come later in the year.”
Mohamed Basir, who was AFC representative during the seminar, added his comments: “The transition from coaching to being an educator is a long arduous process. A good coach does not necessarily make a good Instructor.
“Our identification and selection of qualified experienced coaches with the right attributes is the start point. These individuals are then enrolled into our Instructors' Courses which will be followed by a mentoring process with an experienced AFC Instructor. The policies and procedures in our pathways are meant to ensure that we get quality Instructors for quality coaches.”
AFC is fully committed to the development of Asia’s current Instructors as well as developing new ones through well-charted instructor development pathways.
