Kayseri: AFC U-19 Championship champions Korea Republic twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Portugal in their second match at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup on Monday.
For the second successive match in Turkey the Asian champions conceded an early goal from a corner and this time round it came quicker than Maykel Reyes seventh minute striker in their opening Group B win over Cuba as Aladje headed home his second of the campaign with just three minutes at the Kadir Has Stadium played.
However, with the interval fast approaching Ryu Seung-woo, who scored the Koreans’ winner against Cuba, netted his second of the tournament when he picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area, evaded Tiago Ilori and expertly finished past Portugal keeper Jose Sa.
Portugal reclaimed their advantage on the hour mark when Bruma’s powerful drive into the bottom corner of Lee Chang-geun’s goal saw him go joint-top of the scoring charts with three goals along with Nigeria’s Abdul Ajagun but again the Koreans fought back with Kim Hyun’s 76th minute effort earning the East Asians a deserved point.
The point puts the Koreans and Portugal level on four points with one round of Group B matches remaining. The Asian champions are next in action on Thursday when they take on third-placed Nigeria knowing that a draw will be sufficient to take them through to the Round of 16.
