Jakarta: Former Chelsea and Ghana international star Michael Essien has joined Indonesian side Persib Bandung.
The 34-year-old, who had been without a club since leaving Greek giants Panathinaikos in 2016, has signed a one-year deal with an option for a further year.
"Thank you for bringing me here. I'm excited and want to give my best,” Essien told Persib’s official website after he was officially unveiled by the West Java club on Tuesday.
“I hope I am the prelude to other world players moving to Indonesia.
“Hopefully this is a good beginning for Indonesian football and also for Persib.”
Essien won two English Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League and four FA Cups during nine illustrious seasons at Chelsea, before going on to play for Real Madrid and AC Milan.
He also appeared at two FIFA World Cups for Ghana during an international career that saw him earn 58 caps for his country.
