Athens: Park Chu-young made a goal-scoring return to the national team as the 28-year-old netted the opening goal in Korea Republic’s 2-0 friendly win over Greece on Wednesday.
The Arsenal striker, who is on loan at Championship side Watford after failing to find a place into the first team at the Emirates, found the net 18 minutes into his return to the Taeguek Warriors following a 13-month absence.
Park, who was last on target for the national team in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the UAE back in November 2011, was set up by with a superb overhead pass from Koo Ja-cheol and the 2011 AFC Asian Cup top-scorer also provided the assist for the second goal, scored by Son Heung-min ten minutes after the interval.
The Koreans host Tunisia on May 26 in their final friendly on home soil before embarking on their eighth consecutive World Cup finals campaign in June, when Hong Myung-bo’s side will face Russia, Algeria and Belgium in Group H of Brazil 2014.
