St Polten: Javad Nekounam and Vahid Amiri both scored as Iran downed Chile 2-0 in a friendly match at the NV Arena in St Polten, Austria on Thursday.
Captain Nekounam, who had been yellow carded five minutes into the game, opened the scoring on 21 minutes when he converted Andranik Teymourian's pinpoint corner.
Naft Tehran midfielder Amiri duly doubled Iran’s lead five minutes after the interval to beat Chile who had advanced to the Round of 16 of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Carlos Queiroz’s side will next travel to Solna to play Sweden in another friendly at the Friends Arena.
Iran will find out their opponents for the second phase of joint 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 AFC Asian Cup 2019 qualifiers at a draw in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 14.
