Doha: Qatar received a boost ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 AFC Asian Cup 2019 joint qualifying campaign as they beat Algeria 1-0 in a friendly on Thursday.
Midfielder Ali Asadalla (pictured) was the man to undo Algeria, who had advanced to a FIFA World Cup knockout stage for the first time during Brazil 2014, with a superb 32nd minute goal.
Assadalla received the ball 35 yards from goal and embarked on a jinking run, beating several Algerian players before calmly finding their net.
Qatar will next host Slovenia in another friendly game at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on March 31.
Djamel Belmadiās side will find out their opponents for the second phase of joint 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 AFC Asian Cup 2019 qualifiers at a draw in Kuala Lumpur on April 14.
