Bangalore: Grassroots coach hailed a recent FIFA/AFC Regional Grassroots Instructors Course for the South Asian region held in Bangalore, India, which had given them new ideas about coaching the youngest section of footballers.
A total of 18 participants from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka took part in the course. They came from 7 different countries including India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka respectively.
The objective of the five-day Futuro III course was to "train the trainers" and develop the instructors. Vincent Subramaniam from Singapore instructed the course.
A tailor-made programme for the participants based on a modified version of the usual FIFA grassroots programme. The practical sessions were targeted on different age groups.
As part of the participants' practical training, a football festival was organised involving 250 children along with their parents' participation, where the kids were divided into groups according to their age and size.
Chokey Nima from Bhutan said the course had focused on instructor training and shared some good ideas and philosophy in grassroots coaching.
“There was some positive competition amongst the participants, which motivated myself to improve and achieve the best,” Chokey said. “I am looking forward to using the FIFA/AFC success formula which will provide us a better consistency and uniformity in training kids.”
Hilal Rasool Parray from India said the course was informative about grassroots coaching.
“If we want to move forward, AFC must try to organise similar courses in future,” he said. “The work done here and the experience we have gained from the instructor is very informative and helpful to us for development at the grassroots level in the South Asian region."
