Changchun: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Guangzhou Evergrande went to the top of the Chinese Super League standings on Saturday as a brace from Ricardo Goulart helped them secure a 2-0 win away at Changchun Yatai.
The result saw Luis Felipe Scolari’s side leapfrog Beijing Guoan, although the team from the Chinese capital can return to the summit if they beat Hangzhou on Sunday.
Yet again, it was Goulart (pictured) who proved the difference for Guangzhou. The Brazilian import opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a fierce drive, before doubling his tally with a neatly converted penalty just four minutes later.
Guangzhou now have 37 points – one more than second-placed Shandong Luneng and Beijing in third - from the 18 games they have played so far this season.
AFC Champions League Quarter-Finals Fixtures
Guangzhou will take on Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol in the first leg of their AFC Champions League quarter-final at Kashiwa Stadium on August 25.
The big spending Chinese giants will then host Kashiwa in the return fixture at the Tianhe Stadium on September 15.
