Manila: Myanmar had Soe Min Oo to thank on Saturday after the striker's extra-time goal helped his side lift the Peace Cup title courtesy of a 3-2 win over the Philippines.
Soe's 100th minute strike dashed the host nation's hopes of a third successive Peace Cup success, and added to the growing reputation of a Myanmar team now guided by former Singapore coach Radojko Avramovic.
Having beaten AFC Asian Cup 2015 hopefuls Palestine to reach the tournament final, Myanmar went ahead as early as the eighth minute when Kyaw Ko Ko's shot hit the post before nestling in the back of the net.
With Myanmar goalkeeper Thiha Si Thu in fine form, the Azkals were forced to wait until the 49th minute before they drew level thanks to a fine long-range effort from defender Daisuke Sato – his first goal at international level.
Phil Younghusband then converted a 71st minute penalty to hand the host nation a slender lead, an advantage that would last until Min Min Thu stunned the home fans at the Rizal Memorial Stadium by netting a stoppage time equaliser.
Myanmar carried their momentum into the additional 30 minutes and duly sealed the win when Soe fired home a rebound after an initial Roland Muller save.
