Al Ram: Iraq and United Arab Emirates will contest the inaugural WAFF U-18 Championship final after both sides prevailed on penalties in Wednesday’s semi-finals at Faisal Al Husseini International Stadium.
Iraq sealed their place in the decider with a 4-2 shootout win after a 1-1 draw against Jordan, while UAE denied tournament hosts Palestine a final berth, winning 4-1 from the spot after a scoreless evening match.
Iraq and UAE will meet in Friday's decider having already crossed paths earlier in the tournament, with UAE winning last Saturday’s group stage meeting 4-2.
Al Ram: Jordan and United Arab Emirates became the first teams to secure places in the 2019 WAFF U-18 Championship, after both registered wins on the second day of group stage action in Palestine on Saturday.
A goal-laden final 15 minutes helped Jordan overcome Qatar 5-1 in the early match, before UAE joined Belal Al Laham’s side in the knockout stage with a 4-2 victory over Iraq.
Dushanbe: A late goal from Mahdi Hashemnezhad Rahimabadi gave Islamic Republic of Iran the point they needed to win the 2019 CAFA U-19 Championship title after they earned a 1-1 draw against 10-man Tajikistan at Dushanbe Central Stadium on Thursday.
Needing only to avoid defeat to hold off the hosts in the final match of the round-robin competition, Iran fell behind to a first-half goal from promising Tajikistan striker Rustam Soirov but hit back with Rahimabadi’s 80th-minute leveller to become the Central Asian champions.
Earlier in the day, Uzbekistan beat Turkmenistan 2-0 to finish third in the competition, which serves as preparation for the forthcoming 2020 AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers.
