Alkmaar: Alireza Jahanbakhsh ended a superb Eredivisie season with AZ Alkmaar as the league’s top scorer with 21 goals, scoring three in their final match against Zwolle at the AFAS Stadion on Sunday.
The Islamic Republic of Iran international opened the scoring just 13 minutes into the game when he sidestepped Zwolle defenders before unleashing a left footed strike.
After the break, Jahanbakhsh was positioned perfectly in the box to receive a cross from Teun Koopmeiners to double their lead in the 52nd minute.
A goal from Fredrik Midtsjø and brace from Wout Weghorst further laid the foundations for an emphatic win, and Jahanbakhsh had the last say, completing his hat-trick two minutes from time to claim a spectacular win and season, as well as the Golden Boot.
AZ Alkmaar, however, finished third in the standings on 71 points, behind AFC Ajax and PSV Eindhoven with 79 and 83 respectively.
The 24-year-old will look to continue his fine form in Iran’s FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 campaign next month.
