Hong Kong: Japan enjoyed a big opening win as they whipped Macau 12-0 in their AFC U-14 Championship 2014 qualification Group H match at the Mongkok Stadium on Thursday.
Homma Shion scored a triple while skipper Tamura Yujiro, Hori Hiroaki and Teshime Hide (with one successful penalty kick) clinched a brace each.
Defender Omori Ryo, midfielder Fukuoka Shimpei and substitute Hayakawa Kairi were also on target with a goal each for the Japanese.
Macau defender Ma Hoi Him picked up a yellow card on 49 minutes in the match, which was preceded by the day’s opening game where DPR Korea beat hosts Hong Kong 5-0.
Up next, Japan will play DPR Korea while Macau are up against Mongolia on Saturday, matches which have been re-scheduled from Friday because of extremely bad weather.
Forty-six nations are in the qualification for the inaugural u-14 competition and are divided into four zones with the top two teams from each zone (total eight teams) qualifying for the finals.
