Beijing: Korea Republic claimed the third place in the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship for the East region on Wednesday after beating Chinese Taipei 3-1 at China’s National Football Training Centre.
It was a repeat of the Koreans’ finishing in last year’s inaugural edition of the championship where the Koreans defeated Japan 2-1.
The tie was also the second meeting between Korea and Chinese Taipei during the current tournament with the Koreans earlier whipping Chinese Taipei 6-0 in their campaign opener.
Park Hye-jeong opened the scoring for the Koreans on 18 minutes through a penalty which was her sixth goal in the competition.
Chinese Taipei substitute Lu Meng Fang, who came on the pitch on 10 minutes, leveled the scoreline with her goal on 27 minutes before the match went into the break.
Korean midfielder Song Bo-ram however reclaimed the lead when she bulged Chinese Taipei’s net on 61 minutes.
It was then time for the Koreans’ substitute to show her mettle as Jo Min-ah, who came on the field on 27 minutes, scored Kim Jung-chan’s side’s last goal to clinch the third place.
