Kuala Lumpur: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated Bahrain for winning the GCC U-23 Championship 2013.
Hassan Jamil’s first half penalty helped Bahrain defeat Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the final played in Manama.
“I would like to congratulate Bahrain Football Association President Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and all the stakeholders of football in Bahrain for winning the GCC U-23 Championship 2013,” said Shaikh Salman.
“The GCC championship is considered very prestigious in West Asia as all the participating countries approach this championship following good preparations.
“This triumph is the sign of progress of the youth brigade in Bahrain and across West Asia. The efforts of the organisers and participating teams were fantastic throughout this championship,” he added.
“This competition has also given the much-needed preparation to the West Asian teams for the AFC U-22 Championship to be played in Oman in January next year and I am hopeful that these teams will give their best in Muscat.”
