Nay Pyi Taw: Singapore started their campaign to qualify for the inaugural AFC U-14 Championship 2014 by beating Laos 3-1 in their Group F match at the Zeyar Thiri Stadium in Myanmar on Tuesday.
The Singaporeans drew first blood trough midfielder Ian Danish Suhaimi’s goal on eight minutes but the Laotians’ Nilun Luangsisombath levelled the score-line after 22 minutes.
The island nation however was not going to surrender the advantage too easily as forward Muhamad Firas Muhamad Irwan took it one up again four minutes before the break.
The second half almost went uneventful but this was going to change just a minute before the final whistle as substitute Joel Chew Joon Herng found Laos’ net and sealed the win for Nor Azli Bin Mohd’s side.
Singapore will be facing Thailand on Wednesday and Cambodia will be the opponents to Laos on Friday.
