Kuala Lumpur: The first activity for parents under the AFC Midnight Football community development programme was held in the Unity Activity Centre in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
About 30 parents learned effective parenting skills in entertaining and mind opening sessions by Chris NG, a consultant with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) Kuala Lumpur branch. Their sons or daughters also took part in the three-hour workshop.
MF is a programme under the AFC Dream Asia initiative which aims to promote social development in Asian communities with football as the central platform for change.
Various activities including entertaining games were carried out at the centre to share with the parents about trust, ways of effective communication and knowing about different personalities.
All of the activities involved the parents and their children who were also participants of MF.
The programme started with a speech by AFC Social Responsibility Director Ingill Ra who introduced the AFC and its roles to the parents.
He explained that the AFC was not only about football championships but also concerned with social and community development throughout Asia with MF as one if its programmes.
Dr. Teh Su Thye, the Executive Director of the AFC’s MF organising partner, Global Peace Festival Malaysia, also presented to the participants about the success of the first edition of MF which took place from September last year to July this year.
The inaugural edition of MF has received acclaims from various quarters hailing it to be the first ever football-based activity in Asia to help youth going in the wrong direction back on track.
The second edition of MF has taken a new twist by involving not only the youngsters but also their parents and teachers.
