Damascus: Frenchman Claude LeRoy has been appointed head coach of the Syria national team, with the former Oman manager signing a two-year deal.
The 63-year-old takes over from caretaker coach Tita Valeriu, who led the team at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ following the shock departure of Ratomir Dujkovic barely a month before the continental showcase kicked-off in Doha.
LeRoy’s appointment marks the third time he has been at the helm of an Asian national team following spells with Malaysia and Oman, who he lead to glory at the 2009 Gulf Cup of Nations, while he also has experience coaching clubs in the UAE (Al Shabab) and China (Shanghai Cosco).
