Nay Pyi Taw: Vietnam gained their second win after beating hosts Myanmar 3-1 in qualifying Group E of the AFC U-14 Championship 2014 at Wunna Theik Stadium on Friday.
The victory came after three games with the first win gained against Brunei Darussalam whom they whipped 11-0 on Wednesday.
Vietnam striker Nguyen Van Thanh opened the scoring as early as two minutes into the game before the match went into the break. The last 10 minutes proved to the most thrilling moments in the game with Vietnam midfielder Nguyen Hong Son converting a penalty on 15 minutes to double their lead.
Myanmar then took one down through Aung Zin Myint’s goal just two minutes before full time but then Van Thanh scored his second goal right on the full-time mark to bring the final scoreline to 3-1.
Vietnam are now in third position in the six-nation group while the hosts sit in fourth spot. Both teams still have a chance to top the group and thus qualify for the finals.
Myanmar will on Sunday face Timor Leste who are on fire after thumping Brunei Darussalam 14-0 earlier in the morning while Vietnam are up against the Philippines.
Iran, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, DPR Korea and Iraq have already booked their tickets to the finals after finishing their respective qualifying groups.
The results of the ongoing Group E and also Group F, both in Myanmar, will complete the qualification stage of the eight-nation inaugural U-14 tournament.
