Yangon: Five different players scored a goal apiece as hosts Myanmar went top of Group A after thumping Guam 5-0 in their opening match of the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 qualifiers on Saturday.
Myanmar lead Group A with a superior goal difference over India who recorded a 2-1 win over Chinese Taipei in the earlier match.
Striker Soe Min Oo opened the floodgates in the 26th minute and Kyi Lin’s 40th minute penalty put Myanmar firmly in the driving seat. Pyaye Phyo Aung made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time.
Pai Soe added the team’s fourth five minutes into the second half and Kyaw Zayar Win wrapped up the rout by netting the fifth in the 80th minute.
Hosts Myanmar face Chinese Taipei on Monday and a win will ensure their passage to the next year’s finals in the Maldives if India manages to defeat or hold Guam.
