Riyadh: Ahmed Khalil and Ali Mabkhout both scored their second goal in as many games as the UAE defeated New Zealand 2-0 to win the OSN Cup on Monday.
The duo were on target in Thursday’s victory over Trinidad & Tobago which set up the trophy decider with the All Whites, who edged hosts Saudi Arabia 1-0 in their opener, and it was Al Ahli striker Khalil who put the UAE 1-0 up after 11 minutes before Al Jazira attacker Mabkhout sealed the win 11 minutes after the interval.
The triumph was a major boost for the UAE ahead of the resumption of their 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign on October 15, when the Emiratis travel to Hong Kong as the race for a ticket to Australia reaches the halfway stage.
