Chonburi: Japan sealed their place in the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 semi-finals on Thursday as they beat Korea Republic 2-0 on Thursday to remain top of the Group B standings.
Oto Kanno’s sublime first-half finish and Yuzuki Yamamoto's late strike proved the difference against a Korea Republic side who find themselves still in second spot despite China PR’s 5-1 win over Myanmar earlier in the day.
Reigning champions Japan will now head into Sunday’s meeting with China knowing that a draw would be enough to guarantee them top spot in the group as they seek a sixth Continental crown at this level.

Chonburi: Australia threw themselves an AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 lifeline on Wednesday as they defeated Thailand 3-1 to move third in Group A and remain in contention for a place in the semi-finals.
Mary Fowler’s first-half brace and a Courtney Nevin set-piece special helped secure the vital three-point haul for Australia on a night when host nation Thailand’s title aspirations were extinguished despite a determined performance.
The result, which also saw table-topping DPR Korea confirmed as the first team through to the last four, leaves Australia needing to beat Vietnam on Saturday to be assured of their progress through to the knockout phase.

Chonburi: DPR Korea head coach Son Sung-gwon has revealed that a change of tactics proved crucial as his team eased into the semi-finals of the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 after Wednesday’s 3-0 victory over Vietnam.
Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession throughout the first period, Son’s charges failed to find the net against a battling Vietnam side at the IPE Stadium.
However, a tweak in approach made all the difference after the break as the 2007 winners went on to score three times and assure themselves a place in the next round after Australia defeated hosts Thailand 3-1 in Group A’s other fixture.
