Kuwait City: AFC Cup 2014 hopefuls Al Qadsia clawed back the Kuwait Premier League title from Kuwait SC after lifting the trophy in a dramatic last matchday of the league by beating Al Nasar 1-0.
Qadsia had won the trophy for four consecutive years before reigning AFC Cup champions Kuwait SC broke that streak last year.
But Saturday’s hard-fought victory helped them to regain the title as they mustered 68 points from 26 matches – four points more than Kuwait SC.
Both the sides started their matches with two points separating them as a defeat for Qadsia and win for Kuwait SC would have helped the later to successfully defend the title.
However, Kuwait SC fired blank at home against rock-bottom Al Fahaheel and Qadsia had to thank Kuwait international Bader Al Mutuwa for striking the winner in the 22nd of the match.
Qadsia are at home against Jordanian debutant That Ras in the Round of 16 tie of the AFC Cup 2014 which will be played on 13 May while a day later defending champions Kuwait SC face Riffa of Bahrain at the Kuwait SC Stadium.
