Kuala Lumpur: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has expressed his deep sadness over the death of former Singapore international Quah Kim Swee who passed away on Saturday.
The prolific striker, famed for his heading ability, will be remembered for the magnificent contribution he made to Singaporean football, with the six goals he scored in an 11-0 Malaya Cup win over Pahang in 1963 a particular highlight.
Kim Swee, who played for Singapore from the late 1950s until the early 1970s, was a member of the Singapore side that won the 1965 Malaya Cup, before going on to captain his country.
He was also selected to be part of the Asian All Stars team who played touring European teams during the 1960s.
Under Kim Swee’s captaincy, Singapore famously finished fourth at the 1966 Asian Games in Bangkok.
The thoughts and prayers of the AFC, the Football Association of Singapore and the rest of the Asian football fraternity are with his family and friends.
