Tehran: Esteghlal midfielder Andranik Teymourian was named the season's best player as the Iran league held its annual awards ceremony on Saturday.
Teymourian, who played in all three of Iran's matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, was the standout performer for Esteghlal in what was admittedly a poor season for the Tehran giants, who bowed out of this year's AFC Champions League and finished fifth in the Iran league standings.
The former Bolton and Fulham defensive midfielder rejoined Esteghlal in July 2013 having had a spell in Qatar with Al Kharitiyath and played 31 times this season, in which Esteghlal went on a 17-match unbeaten run.
Hossein Fakri, who led Foolad to the 2013/14 Iran league title, took the Manger of the Year award while Persepolis' striker Mohammad Abbaszadeh was named the best young player after scoring five times in 13 appearances for the runners-up.
