Nay Pyi Taw: AFC U-14 Championship 2014’s already-crowned Group F winners Thailand lost 4-1 to Laos in their last qualifying match at the Zeyar Thiri Stadium in Myanmar on Monday.
The Thais had clinched their ticket to the finals the day before when they beat Cambodia 1-0 and confirmed their rule of the group on an unmatchable 12 points.
Somsak Senchaowanich’s boys were on fire throughout the campaign as evident when they opened their qualifying with a 6-2 win over Indonesia before going on to beating Singapore 2-0. Bangladesh then succumbed to them 4-0 before the Thai boys proceeded to the decider against Cambodia.
The Laotians led by head coach Honma Kei finished on fourth position having won two games. Viengpaseuth Malaphanh and Nilun Luangsisombath were on targets twice each in their game against Thailand.
In another group , Group E also hosted by Myanmar, Timor Leste emerged as the champions having won four of five games and also claimed their ticket to the 2014 finals.
The qualification stage is now complete and all the eight teams contesting for top honours in the inaugural U-14 continental competition are Thailand, Timor Leste, IR Iran, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, DPR Korea and Iraq.
