Shah Alam: Thailand showed why they are the defending champions as they soundly beat Myanmar 10-2 to stay in the hunt for gold in the Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games men’s futsal on Friday.
The tournament favourites, who lost 2-4 to Indonesia, took out their frustration on Myanmar, going 4-1 up at halftime before hitting six more past goalkeeper Zwe Pyae Sone.
Thailand remain third on six points, a point behind Malaysia, who they will meet in a winner takes gold medal match on Sunday.
Thailand showed their attacking prowess early on, netting two goals in quick succession through Apiwat Chaemcharoen in the first minute while Muhammad Osamanmusa added the second after five minutes of play.
Myanmar pulled one back through Aung Aung in the eighth minute but Thailand were not rattled as they answered immediately a minute later with a goal from Kritsada Wongkaeo - a shot to the top right corner.
Jetsada Chudech put the scoreline at 4-1 in the 15th minute when he unleashed a rocket.
Thailand were relentless after the restart, peppering their opponents goal with shots as Myanmar conceded more through defensive errors.
Chudech picked up a pass from midfield to score his second in the game to make it 5-1.
Thailand added five more through Warut W (22nd), Kritsada Wongkaeo (23rd), Jetsada Chudech (25th), Peerapol Satsue (28th, 29th) in the span of 15 minutes as they strolled through the match.
