Colombo: Prolific scorer Fatemeh Ghasemi scored four goals as she helped Iran defeat Tajikistan 6-0 in their opener in the 2014 AFC U-14 Girls’ Regional Championship for South and Central Asia in the capital city of Sri Lanka Thursday evening.
Midfielder Ghasemi, who scored nine goals in last year's edition, opened the scoring on 17 minutes before she went on to complete her quadruple on 22, 30 and 49 minutes in the 70-minute match held at the City Football Complex. She was later adjudged the match's MVP.
Striker Saba Javadi scored after 26 minutes while substitute Golnoosh Khosravi who came on the field on 24 minutes made her mark with a goal five minutes later for Masoomeh Jahanchi’s side.
Iran now occupy third spot on the six-team table below India (second) and Nepal (top) while Tajikistan are in fifth spot.
Iran will continue their campaign by facing Bhutan while the Sulaymon Bobokalonov-led Tajiks take on India on Friday.
