Zurich: The Uzbekistan Football Federation (UFF) has won the FIFA Fair Play Award 2012.
FIFA Vice-President HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, who is also the chairman of the AFC Social Responsiblity Committee, handed over the coveted award to UFF President Mirabor Usmanov during the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala on Monday.
The UFF had also won the AFC Fair Play Association of the Year 2012 Award having accumulated more Fair Play points over the year than any other nation in the confederation, with the Central Asians amassing 498.84 points.
The Asian flag bearers saw off the challenges of Guatemalan Football Federation and Turkish club Eskisehirspor who were nominated alongside the UFF last month.
Points are awarded or deducted on the basis of red and yellow cards received, positive play, respect towards opponents and the referee and the conduct of the officials as well as of the crowd.
FIFA, like AFC, commends persons or institutions for their fair play each year, an issue that has always been of crucial significance to world football’s governing body.
