Siliguri: Wim Koevermans has confirmed that he will not be continuing as head coach of the India national team when his contract runs out at the end of the month.
Speaking to reporters following India's 3-2 defeat to Palestine, Koevermans said that the friendly loss to the AFC Challenge Cup champions was his last game in charge and that he would not be continuing his involvement with the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
"This was my last match as the coach of the national team and I will not be taking up the post of AIFF's Technical Director for private reasons," stated the Dutchman, who joined India in July 2012 after a four-year stint as the Republic of Ireland's High Performance Director.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my stint and stay in India. When I took charge I was told to change the style of play and there has been a huge improvement on that front. We created chances in every match that we played and played some good football. But that hasn't been enough."
