World champions Argentina shade Uzbekistan in Tashkent clash
Tashkent: Reigning FIFA Futsal World Cup winners Argentina made a successful start to their tour of Uzbekistan, edging out the hosts 1-0 on Tuesday in the first of two matches in the nation's capital.
The match-winning goal was provided by Lucas Bolo Alemany with eight minutes remaining in the first half, before Bakhodir Akhmedov’s side came close to an equaliser on a number of occasions after the interval.
Uzbekistan gave their guests a welcome worthy of world champions, presenting them with traditional Uzbek garments and Uzbekistan-Argentina hybrid shirts in a tribute to the recently departed Diego Maradona in a pre-game ceremony.
Doha: The eyes of the football world will soon be on Qatar for the first major tournament of the year. The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020 will be held from February 4 to 11 after the annual competition was delayed by two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The top clubs from five of football’s six continental confederations will join host nation representatives Al Duhail SC in determining who will be crowned the world’s best. Auckland City FC, who were nominated to represent the Oceania region at the tournament, withdrew from the competition because of COVID-19 quarantine measures required by authorities in New Zealand.
