Uzbekistan delight Venancio Lopez; Iraq worry Cacau

Bangkok: Uzbekistan completed their AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 Group B campaign with a perfect record of three victories, and head coach Jose Venancio Lopez put the achievement down to his team’s mental strength and collective unity.

After wins over Australia and Iraq, Sunday’s comeback win over Saudi Arabia at Bangkok Arena saw Uzbekistan advance to the quarter-finals for the 15th consecutive time.

Group B: Fightback takes Iraq through

Bangkok: A stirring fightback saw Iraq defeat Australia 6-2 in Group B of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024™ at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium on Sunday.

The win confirmed Iraq’s quarter-final spot, with the West Asian side finishing second in the group behind Uzbekistan.

Group A: Vietnam advance despite Thailand defeat

Bangkok: Thailand defeated Vietnam 2-1 to top Group A of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand™ 2024 at the Hua Mark Arena on Sunday.

The defeat, however, did not prevent Vietnam from also advancing as they finished second ahead of Myanmar on goal difference with both teams tied on four points.

Bangkok: Myanmar secured their first-ever AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ win after defeating China PR 3-1 but were still eliminated from Thailand 2024 at the Bangkok Arena on Sunday.

Needing not only second-placed Vietnam to lose to eventual Group A winners Thailand but also by a significant goal-swing to overcome a six-goal differential, Myanmar finished third, albeit level on points with their fellow Southeast Asians.
