World Cup winning head coach Giustozzi to raise the bar of Vietnam futsal

Hanoi: Former Argentina head coach Diego Giustozzi has taken charge of the Vietnam national team ahead of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022.

The highly-rated Giustozzi, who guided Argentina to their maiden FIFA Futsal World Cup title in 2016, will be tasked to not only earn the Southeast Asian side a place in the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup but also win the AFC Futsal Asian Cup title.

Vietnam will be making their fifth AFC Futsal Asian Cup appearance in Kuwait, with their best achievement a fourth placed finish in the 2016 edition in Uzbekistan.

Tashkent: Pakhtakor FC stormed to the top of the Uzbekistan Super League after coming back from a goal down to edge bottom-placed Dinamo Samarqand 3-2 on Monday.

Pakhtakor took a 2-1 lead going into the break but needed a late goal from new signing Przemysław Banaszak to seal the three points at the Pakhtakor Stadium.

Maksim Shatskikh’s side have 26 points and are ahead of FC Sogdiana, who registered a 2-0 win over FC Bunyodkor, on goal difference.

Yamashita becomes Japan's first woman pro referee

Tokyo: Yoshimi Yamashita became Japan's first woman professional football referee on Monday and said she was happy to "make a splash" as she prepares to create history at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Yamashita, 36, was named in May alongside France's Stephanie Frappart and Rwanda's Salima Mukansanga as officials for Qatar 2022 later this year – the first women to referee at a men's World Cup.
