Kuwait City: Hosts Kuwait made an impressive start to their 2014 AFC U-16 Championship qualifying Group A campaign after opening with a 5-1 defeat of Lebanon on Monday.
Khaled Al Enezi netted Kuwait’s first goal of the qualifiers after five minutes and grabbed his second in the 16th minute to restore the home side’s lead after Hikmat Zein had pulled Lebanon level just 120 seconds after the Kuwaiti midfielder’s opener.
Salem Al Bariki made it 3-1 to Kuwait with two minutes of the first-half remaining before second-half substitutes Abdulaziz Al Hadiyah and Abdulaziz Ahmad added their names to the score sheet after the break.
Al Hadiyah, who replaced midfielder Yousef Al Rashidi at the start of the second-half, scored Kuwait’s fourth in the 66th minute while Abdulaziz Ahmad completed the scoring one minute into stoppage time having come on for Al Enezi in the 78th minute.
The winners of the ten qualifying groups and the best five runners-up will join hosts Thailand in the finals of the 2014 AFC U-16 Championship.
