Vientiane: Chief coach Sasom Probprasert has warned that Thailand cannot rest on their laurels after defeating Laos 1-0 in Wednesday’s AFF U16 Youth Championship final with the qualifiers for the AFC U-16 Championship coming up in September.
Suchanon Makison’s fifth minute header was enough for the Thais to edge the tournament hosts, who played for the majority of the match without Chittakone Sithanong after the Laos skipper was red-carded in the 18th minute.
But despite securing their second AFF U16 Championship title, Sasom saw considerable room for improvement.
“I’m still not happy even though we won tonight,” Sasom was quoted as saying by the ASEAN Football Federation’s official website.
“The players are just not cool enough especially in defence. We should be better than this and we should improve for the AFC qualifiers in two months.”
Thailand host Group G of the AFC U-16 Championship 2012 qualifiers where they have been pooled with Australia, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Guam and Indonesia, who they defeated 2-0 in the group stage of their successful AFF campaign.
