Kuala Lumpur: Vietnam’s chances of advancing to the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship quarter-finals are minimal at best but Khuat Van Khang isn’t giving up.
With only one point to their name after two matches, Vietnam will need to defeat Islamic Republic of Iran by three clear goals on Thursday and hope India defeat Indonesia for the young Golden Dragons to seal knockout stage berth from Group C.
“I know that we have a slim chance, but we are not going to give up hope,” Van Khang told the-AFC.com.
“Even if we have one percent chance, we are still going to fight for it.
“The whole team will work very hard together. We will play compact, we will play according to the tactical plans prepared by the coach, and if we do that, we will definitely get the three points," added the firward.

Kuala Lumpur: Indonesia and Vietnam settled for a hard fought 1-1 draw in their AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Malaysia Group C tie at the National Stadium on Monday.
Vietnam played a high pressing game against an Indonesian team who defeated former champions Islamic Republic of Iran 2-0 in their opener on Friday.
The young Golden Dragons dictated play in the opening eight minutes as they tried to find a way past the Indonesian defence but often found themselves losing the ball midway through their buildup.
With the partisan crowd backing them, Indonesia pushed forward with Amiruddin Bagus Alfikri finding space in the Vietnam box in the 12th minute but his attempt to progress was cut short as he was quickly disposed by Vietnam defenders.

Kuala Lumpur: India and Islamic Republic of Iran played to a 0-0 draw in their 2018 AFC U-16 Championship Group C tie at the National Stadium on Monday.
IR Iran, who lost their opening match against Indonesia, made three changes to their starting lineup - bringing in Hossein Shaverdi, Hossein Hajizadehkhorasani and Mirreza Eslamtalab and they were more compact in midfield and organised at the back.
IR Iran's Amir Jafari sent in an inviting cross into the box in the fifth minute but it was too high for Yasin Salmani’s reach as India goalkeeper Niraj Kumar collected the ball with ease.
India battled hard for possession but were unable to get a foothold of the match as IR Iran closed the door on their opponents as they approached the danger zone.

Kuala Lumpur: India head coach Bibiano Fernandes says his boys are ready to slug it out against Indonesia in their final Group C match at the National Stadium on Thursday.
India have experienced different highs in the competition, with a late goal in their first match against Vietnam giving them three points and a late penalty save by goalkeeper Niraj Kumar salvaging a point against IR Iran on Monday as the South Asians inched closer to a first quarter-final berth since 2002.
India not only soaked up the pressure against the Central Asians in the second half but almost stole the game at the end with Lalchhanhime Sailo coming close in stoppage time.

Kuala Lumpur: Suphanat Mueanta's three goals in the AFC U-16 Championship 2018 Malaysia indicate that he is set for big things but the player has only one target - ensuring Thailand qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
On top of Continental glory, the AFC U-16 Championship 2018 also serves as the Asian qualifiers, where the top four teams will earn berths to the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru, and Mueanta’s two-goal blitz against Malaysia ensured a 4-2 win over the host nation, reviving their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage.
Mueanta admitted that the all-Southeast Asian affair at the National Stadium on Sunday was a tough match, but their past meetings gave him much needed experience, saying: “Malaysia is a really good team and had a good preparation, but having played against them before, that experience has been useful here.
“I’m glad to score in this game to help my team take the lead against Malaysia. But the goals are not important, because our target is to bring Thailand to the World Cup."
