Melaka: Liang Kai-jou scored the tenth goal of her qualifying campaign as she helped Chinese Taipei reach the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship China 2015 after downing Myanmar 2-0 in Melaka, Malaysia, on Thursday.
After both had failed to convert their chances, it looked as if the game was heading towards a goalless first half before the match’s eventual MVP Huang Yu-tzu opened the scoring just a minute before the break in the game held at the Hang Tuah Stadium.
Liang, who contributed a whopping five goals in her side's 7-0 whipping of Myanmar in their Group D campaign opener, scored Chinese Taipei’s second and final goal on 56 minutes.
Liang had scored four goals in Chinese Taipei's 5-2 defeat of the Philippines two days earlier.
Chinese Taipei joined Korea Republic, who had already qualified for the AFC U-16 Women's Championship after beating Australia 1-0 the day before.
The duo, along with two more teams to be determined through qualifications, will play in the eight-nation tournament to be held in Wuhan, China, in November next year.
Japan (2013 champions), DPR Korea, China, and Thailand are direct entrants having finished in the top four in the last edition.
Meanwhile, the Philippines downed Cambodia 4-2 in the other Group D game at the Hang Jebat Stadium.
Joyce Omboy Semacio (45’), Itsuko Maree Bacatan (33’), Mikhaela Jumawan (30’) and substitute Lindsay Whaley (89’) were all on target for the Joyce Bernardo Landagan-led Filipinas.
Yon Yeurn (8’) and Song Channa (90+3’) scored for the Cambodians.
