Manama: A sublime winner from Jasurbek Yakhshiboev gave Uzbekistan a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Tajikistan in their AFC U-19 Championship Bahrain 2016 Group D opener at Khalifa Sports City Stadium on Saturday.
Tajikstan captain Kraomatullo Saidov’s looping header caught Uzbekistan goalkeeper Umidjon Ergashev out of position in the 20th minute to give his team the lead.
Substitute Sayidjamol Davlatjonov then restored parity in the 67th minute with a well placed shot before Yakhshiboev took the plaudits with his game-winning turn.
Uzbekistan had looked the more adventurous side as the match began, with Yakshiboev looking to run at defenders and Nurillo Tukhtasinov testing goalkeeper Behruz Khayriev from distance on several occasions.
One such shot from outside the box struck the right goalpost in the 6th minute, but Khayriev looked to have it covered.
It was Tajikistan however, who took the lead against the run of play in the 20th minute.
Dorobjon Ergashov’s early cross into the box found Saidov as the midfielder rose above his marker to loop a header over goalkeeper Umidjon Ergashev in no man’s land and into goal.
Tajikistan seemed buoyed by their opener, as they began to stamp their mark on proceedings as Uzbekistan struggled to regain their rhythm.
