Group C: Second half surge takes Korea Republic past Jordan

Tashkent: Second half goals from Bae Jun-ho and Kang Seong-jin secured Korea Republic a hard-earned 2-0 win over Jordan at JAR Stadium on Sunday as Kim Eun-jung’s side moved to the verge of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023.

Bae gave the Koreans the lead when he capitalised on a mistake by Jordan goalkeeper Murad Al Faluje in the 65th minute of the Group C clash and Kang doubled his side’s advantage five minutes later with a fine solo effort from outside the area.
 
The win was Korea Republic’s second in a row after kicking off their campaign with a 4-0 defeat of Oman on Thursday and, with six points from their opening pair of matches, Kim’s side now top the standings and are a step closer to claiming a place in the last eight.
 
Jordan, meanwhile, remain on three points and will take on the Omanis on Wednesday knowing a win could still take them into the knockout rounds after they won their first game 2-0 against Tajikistan.

Tashkent: Uzbekistan head coach Ravshan Khaydarov believes emotions got the better of some of his players even as they emerged 1-0 victors in a heated encounter against Iraq in Group A of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 on Saturday.

Polatkhoja Kholdorkhonov bagged the only goal of the game 17 minutes in, but a sequence of events late in the first half overshadowed the conversation.

Khaydarov decided to take-off Nodirbek Abdurazzaqov 10 minutes before the break, introducing Shakhzodbek Rahmatullayev who lasted just nine minutes on the pitch before being dismissed for a rash challenge on Ali Jasim. Group C kicks off Qualifiers Round 1 action

Tashkent: The journey to reach the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 Finals starts on Monday with the first of eight groups swinging into action.

Round 1 of the Qualifiers - which will feature 28 teams - will start in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic with Guam playing Australia in Group C.
 
The eight group winners will progress to Round 2, where the four best sides will earn a spot in the Finals where they will join the three highest seeds from the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 - champions Japan, DPR Korea and Korea Republic - and host nation Uzbekistan.
